It’s Official: Latkes Are The Best Hanukkah Treat — And Here Are 10 Ways To Make Them Even More Awesome.

You voted, and the results are in: latkes rule, and sufganiyot don’t quite make you drool.

While you can always buy them, making your own is much more fun. But even if you opt to buy the frozen ones (we won’t judge), why not try adding homemade applesauce on the side?

Want to up your ante? Try swapping out your boring old white or yellow potatoes for some chickpeas or sweet potatoes, adding some feta, turning up the spicy heat factor, or just throwing in the whole vegetable drawer — carrots, zucchini, parsnips, squash? If you can grate it, then it just might work.

If you’re feeling insanely adventurous, why not try whipping up some Potato Latkes with Gin-Cured Salmon, Pickled Beets and Boursin? Or perhaps a Indian Spiced Latke with Cauliflower Chutney & Crushed Cashew Nuts or a Laid Back Latke with Deviled Eggs, Red Onion, Parsley and Black Olive Relish will do the trick?

If all else fails, head to Las Vegas and indulge your inner glutton on braised veal shank with apple latkes and horsderadish sour cream.

Love your Hanukkah treats sweet, sugary, and powdered? While sufganiyot may not have had the same poll appeal this year, there are no losers in this great Hanukkah debate: even the underdog deserves a fair shake.

Whether you buy them or opt to make your own, don’t knock sufganiyot until you try them — maybe more than once, just to be sure.
