Virtual celebration for bilingual children’s book, “The Clever Tailor”
A new bilingual edition of the classic Yiddish children’s book, “The Clever Little Tailor”, will be celebrated at an online book party this Sunday, November 17 at 4 pm EST. The event is free of charge.
The book, by the children’s writer and Yiddish cultural activist, Solomon Simon (1895-1970), was released by Kinder-Loshn Publications, a new publishing house under the auspices of the Yiddish organization, Yugntruf.
Simon was a prolific Yiddish writer and a founder of the Sholem Aleichem Folk Institute.
The party will be led by the book’s translator, David Forman, who will read certain excerpts of the book in both Yiddish and English. The celebration will also include performances by actor/singer Mikhl Yashinsky and singer/songwriter Adah Hetko, and the screening of a short film about the book’s illustrator, Yehuda Blum, and about the author of the book, Solomon Simon, who was also Forman’s grandfather.
