A year of war and hope in Ukraine
For a full year, the world’s attention has been captured by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and Ukraine’s extraordinary, inspiring defense. In that time we’ve centered the voices of Jewish Ukrainians, Russians and people from the former Soviet Union, as well as fighters and civilians on the front lines of the war and the resulting refugee crisis.
Each of the stories below, published as part of a package reflecting on a year of war, highlights one small part of the complex picture that is Jewish life in Ukraine and Russia. With the end to the war, tragically, nowhere in sight, we will continue to share stories directly from the human beings touched by this senseless conflict.
