Drake’s Blingy Toronto Restaurant, Pick 6ix, Shut Down
First, Drake got booed off the stageat a Los Angeles festival by concertgoers who apparently expected Frank Ocean to perform instead.
Now comes word that Drizzy’s blingy Toronto restaurant, Pick 6ix, was shut down this week for nonpayment of rent. “Millionaire rapper forgets how to write rent check,” blared an Eater headline.
“Technically speaking, Drake didn’t close the restaurant, but his landlord did,” Eater reported. The sports bar “was $67,000 behind on its rent, and its lease was terminated as a result.”
A note on Pick 6ix’s door claimed the restaurant was closed “due to unfortunate flooding”. But a note from the building’s management company indicated that the lease had been terminated before that, according to DailyHive. “Oldest mafia trick in the book: flood or burn your own restaurant when back rent is due,” a DailyHive user named Drizzz commented.
The restaurant’s voicemail message claims Pick 6ix Sports will reopen in early 2020, “but that’s going to be a tall order without a tangible, physical space to occupy,” Eater opined: “This is the second time that Drake, worth some $150 million, has closed down a restaurant — his previous venture, Frings, closed for no particular reason in 2018.”
