Elton John And Shaina Taub To Create ‘Devil Wears Prada’ Musical

The devil wears Prada, and the Jews write about it. We can’t hide our nachas that wunderkind Shaina Taub has been chosen to write the lyrics for the Broadway musical of “The Devil Wears Prada,” partnering with Elton John as the show’s composer. Taub told Playbill, “Writing songs with Elton John is a joy and an honor. ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ is one of my all-time favorite movies. I’m thrilled to join this amazing team in bringing this story about two complex and brilliant women to the stage.”

Taub, whose lengthy resume includes major works like this summer’s musical “12th Night” at Shakespeare in the Park, her own solo album, and multiple off-Broadway performances, joins fellow Yid Paul Rudnick, who will pen the musical’s book, or libretto. Rudnick, the hysterical writer of numerous plays and comic essays in the New Yorker, will adapt the 2006 movie based on Lauren Weisberger’s novel, “The Devil Wears Prada.” We feel almost incapable of not mentioning again that all of these people are really very Jewish. Their partnering over a Broadway musical that concerns shmattes seems almost edenic.

Elton John, of course, is not Jewish. But we’re sure his co-workers will do their best to make him feel welcome.
