‘Shape Of Water,’ ‘Three Billboards’ Lead BAFTA Nominations

The United Kingdom apparently has a soft spot for misunderstood monsters: Guillermo del Toro’s “The Shape of Water,” which won two Golden Globes Awards, has garnered 12 nominations for this year’s BAFTA Awards, the British equivalent of the Oscars.

While “The Shape of Water” earned the most nominations of any film for this year’s awards, “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri” and “Darkest Hour” were close on its heels with nine nominations apiece.

There were few shocks amongst the BAFTA nominees, among which “Phantom Thread,” which features Daniel Day-Lewis in what he claims will be his last role before retirement, and the Luca Guadagnino-directed “Call Me By Your Name” were also well-recognized.

The BAFTA Awards will be presented in a ceremony on February 18. Read the full list of nominees here.
