‘The Post,’ ‘Call Me By Your Name’ Lead Golden Globes Nominations

“The Post,” the Steven Spielberg-directed account of The Washington Post’s decision to publish the Pentagon Papers, is one the most-nominated films for the 2018 Golden Globes.
With six nominations, “The Post” came in a close second to Guillermo del Toro’s “The Shape of Water,” which won seven nominations. “Call Me By Your Name,” the much-heralded adaptation of André Aciman’s novel, garnered three nominations, including a nod for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture, Drama for newcomer Timothée Chalamet. “Phantom Thread,” which stars Daniel Day-Lewis in what he declared would be his last role before his retirement, gained two nominations, including one for Day-Lewis in the same category as Chalamet.
“The Disaster Artist,” a paean to Tommy Wiseau’s creation of the notoriously so-bad-it’s-good movie “The Room,” won two nominations, including one for director and star James Franco for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy. Jordan Peele’s highly acclaimed Blumhouse-produced directorial debut “Get Out” received two nominations: One for Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy, and a Best Actor nod for Daniel Kaluuya in the same field.
In television, Maggie Gyllenhaal earned a nomination for Best Performance by an Actress in a TV Series, Drama for her work on HBO’s “The Deuce” and Liev Schreiber was nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a TV Series, Drama for “Ray Donovan.” Amy Sherman-Palladino and Dan Palladino’s new series “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” which the Forward’s Shira Feder wrote lives up to its name, was nominated for Best Television Series, Musical or Comedy, as was the revival of Max Mutchnick and David Kohan’s “Will and Grace.” And while the first season of National Geographic’s “Genius,” which dramatized the life of Albert Einstein, was largely overlooked, Geoffrey Rush earned a nomination for Best Performance by an Actor in a Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television for his portrayal of Einstein.
