‘Wonder Woman’ Leaves ‘The Mummy’ In The Dust At The Box Office
“Anything you can do, I can do better,” is certainly something Patty Jenkins, director of “Wonder Woman,” would be well within her right to say to Alex Kurtzman, director of “The Mummy.”
I’m not saying she should say it but she wouldn’t be wrong if she did – at least when it comes to directing summer blockbusters.
Considering I wasn’t even aware of a “The Mummy” remake until about three days ago, I’m not sure who thought the two films would be in any real competition with each other. Is it because Wonder Woman is a woman and so is the dead zombie mummy from “The Mummy”? Can mummy’s have a gender???
Regardless of how the mummy protagonist identifies, the two summer blockbusters are not even close when it comes to the dough each one is raking in, respectively. “The Mummy” pulled in only $2.66 million dollars from its previews last night. Compare this to the $11 million dollars “Wonder Woman” made during its previews, nearly four times as much as its “competition.”
Incomparable.
Looks like Warner Bros. will be relying on a couple of chicks (Patty Jenkins and Gal Gadot, specifically) for their big summer payout.
Annie Oakley would be proud.
