Mayim Bialik Doesn’t ‘Get’ Open Relationships
In a video shared to her YouTube channel yesterday, Mayim Bialik, former “Blossom” star and current Most Embarrassing Mom In The World, revealed to her fans that she does not “get” open relationships.
What’s not to get? you might ask. It’s just a relationship that allows for both or all participants in a relationship to step outside the social construction of monogamy in order to practice consensual non-monogamy!
No, no, no, she gets that part. She also get that sex is fun, sex with more than one person is fun, and monogamy is hard!!!!!
“We aren’t biologically wired to be monogamous. Men especially,” said Bialik in the video.
Here’s what she doesn’t get: Open relationships necessarily equate men and women’s sexuality as equivalent. And they’re not – according to Mayim Bialik and … science?
“The male body produces millions of sperm every day. A woman produces one egg per month,” she explains. “For all of evolution, women have carefully selected a mate. And their hormones and physiology favor careful selection. Men don’t need to be as selective because they are constantly able to have sex. Biologically, not just colloquially.”
Bialik goes on to encourage her viewers to “lean in to your biology.”
Of course, science has been used for centuries to validate the “way things should be” musings of people like Bialik. Republicans, for example, may hate the science behind climate change but they sure do love the science behind making babies – especially the part where two members of the same sex can’t do it!
The truth is we’re all individual human beings with different approaches to sex and relationships. You can speculate all you want about how evolution governs the personal relationship decisions made by a human being but, in the end, all you really need to understand is this: It’s absolutely none of your business.
And that seems to be what Mayim Bialik really doesn’t get about open relationships.
As the age-old adage goes: If you don’t like gay marriage, don’t get gay married. And if you don’t like open relationships, don’t have sex with anyone but your boo.
