Austin Mayor Publishes Open Letter to ‘Wonder Woman’ Women-Only Screening Hater

Last week, an Austin movie theater announced it would be hosting a women-only screening of ‘Wonder Woman’ and men lost their minds (#notallmen! #notallmen! #notallmen! Please don’t send me any threatening emails!!!!!).

Today, Austin mayor Steve Adler posted on his website a letter he received from one of these angry men.

The letter’s author, Richard A. Ameduri, expressed his outrage over the situation, asked the Mayor to name something invented by a woman, assured the Mayor he doesn’t hate women so much as he hates women’s “rampant hypocrisy,” and threatened (promised???) to never visit Austin.

He also urged Mayor Adler not to respond, as “ your cowardice will generate nothing worth reading.”

Unfortunately, sometimes you ask and do not receive. Mayor Adler posted a particularly sassy response to the letter on his website this morning and believe me when I say it is well worth reading.

It reads: “Dear Mr. Ameduri, I am writing to alert you that your email account has been hacked by an unfortunate and unusually hostile individual. Please remedy your account’s security right away, lest this person’s uninformed and sexist rantings give you a bad name. After all, we men have to look out for each other.”

It goes on to include a list of things women invented: medical syringes, life rafts, fire escapes, central heating, beer, SELF-RESPECT (that one’s my contribution).

You can read both letters here.

It’s nice to know that Mayor Adler has the back of #yesallwomen. May this be the start of a world in which all movie screenings everywhere are exclusively for women (I’m kidding, once again, please do not email me).
