‘Orange Is The New Black’ Creator Made A Feminist Wrestling Show
Dig out those leg warmers and puffy jackets. There’s a new 80’s Netflix show coming out — and it looks like all kinds of vintage feminist magic.
“Orange is the New Black” creator Jenji Kohan teamed up with Allison Brie and Marc Maron for the upcoming series “Glow,” which tells the story of the very first all-female wrestling show on television.
Brie plays a struggling actress in Hollywood, where meaty, multi-dimensional female roles are few and far between. Luck comes knocking in the form of an open call audition for a wrestling television show, put together by a washed-up director (Maron).
The trailer dropped on Monday, and it looks like the show will be chock full of scrappy underdogs, colorful spandex, friendships, empowerment and self-discovery. Oh, and also weird 80’s Hollywood parties where drugs are served from robots.
Watch below, and get ready to kinda want to pull your hair back in a scrunchie and get in the ring.
