Now You Can Get Coffee in One of Seinfeld’s Cars
Three of Jerry Seinfeld’s Porsches are hitting the auction block – but not that wicked cool silver-blue 1963 Corvette he tooled around the White House in with President Obama.
The comedian is selling a 1955 Porsche 550 Spyder, a 1958 Porsche 356 A 1500 GS/GT Carrera Speedster and a 1974 Porsche 911 Carrera 3.0 IROC RSR. The trio will be sold at a March 11 auction in Amelia Island, Fla., officials with the Gooding & Co. auction house said.
“I just love cars. And I still love these cars,” Seinfeld in a statement. “But it’s time to send some of them back into the world, for someone else to enjoy, as I have.”
The 1955 550 Spyder is estimated to fetch $5 million to $6 million. It is one of 70 cars of its kind produced, one of which was driven by James Dean during his fatal car crash in 1955.
The 1958 Porsche Carrera Speedster is valued at $2 million and is one of 151 Carrera Speedsters built, according to The LA Times.
The 1974 Porsche 911 Carrera is expected to sell for $1.2 million. that the car was originally owned by Roger Penske, head of Penske Corporation, and has participated in Daytona vintage races. It was a contender in the 1970 Riverside Raceway and Daytona Race.
Seinfeld is a known automobile enthusiast and cars in his collection appear in his web series “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee”. It has been estimated that Seinfeld owns 46 Porches, which he keeps in a three-story garage on the Upper West Side in New York City, reported Complex in 2013.
“Jerry’s keen eye for significant Porsches, the care and pride he takes in maintaining his spectacular collection and his enthusiasm and passion for the Porsche marque, makes this one of our most thrilling sales in our company’s history,” said auction house President David Gooding.
