Jon Stewart Defends Trevor Noah on ‘Daily Show’
Twitter may be up in arms about Trevor Noah, but Jon Stewart’s got his back.
The “Daily Show” host stood up for his replacement during the show’s opening segment Monday night, after the South African comedian got blasted for some old tweets deemed sexist, transphobic and anti-Semitic.
“I know there was a large kerfuffle on Tweeeeeeeeeeter. But I can say this without hesitation: Trevor Noah will earn your trust and respect … or not,” Stewart said. “Just as I earned your trust and respect … or did not.”
Stewart also poked fun at his upcoming departure, adding that he looked forward to watching Trevor. “I’m gonna set my DVR. Finally, after 17 f—g years, I’m going to record ‘The Daily Show!’”
