First the Bibi-Sitter, Now Miri Poppins

Many Israelis breathed a sigh of relief last month when the Israeli satire show Eretz Nehederet (A Great Country) came back just in time for the elections. The popular TV show is one of the only safe places in Israeli TV — by this I mean that nothing is off limits, and even the most controversial topics can be made fun of.

This includes Benjamin Netnyahu. The excellent Argentinian-Israeli comedian Mariano Idelman, has perfected the politician’s voice and special brand of head tilt and eyebrow formation and, this season, is newly adorned with a bright lavender wig. Like the rest of us, the Eretz Nehederet crew couldn’t resist poking fan of the latest Bibi-Sitter campaign ad.

Their latest sketch takes place right after the actual campaign commercial. Bibi is watching TV in the living room as the parents are coming back from their date to discover that Bibi has been joined by Miri Poppins – Likkud MK Miri Regev dressed like Mary Poppins. Here are some choice parts:

Parents: Did everything go well?
Miri: TERRIBLE! How can you call a babysitter like this, you have nothing in your fridge expect for juice drinks from a jug of mayo
Mother: I’m sorry we can only go shopping every two weeks because of the prices.
Miri: And you have no cable! I had to read them books… I mean, show them books!

Dad: And did they behave ok?
Bibi: Great, they were little angels, they’re both sleeping in an armored personnel carrier on its way to the North!
Mother: WHAT? Are you crazy?
Bibi: What do you mean: “this is related to the elections”?! How dare you even think such a thing?!

Mother: I didn’t say… What?!
Father: But they’re just 2 and 6 years old!
Bibi: Of course! That’s why they’re going to be in the armored vehicle!

Father: I don’t understand, we’re gone for two hour…
Bibi: interrupts two hours and a half! Don’t steal from me!

Bibi: … Forget about that! How was your movie?
Parents: We didn’t go to see a movie, we just went for a walk, who has the cash for a movie nowadays. I just saw downstairs a very dignified looking lady taking apart a manhole to sell the metal.
Bibi: Oh, that’s my wife, she’s here to pick me up!
