A-Rod Facilitates Unlikely Abe Foxman-Rick Sanchez Reunion
Advice for Mel Gibson and John Galliano: If you’re an accused anti-Semite trying to rescue your career, Alex Rodriguez, aka A-Rod, is apparently the man to see.
The Yankees third baseman, of all people, was behind last week’s oddball reunion between Anti-Defamation League leader Abe Foxman and Rick Sanchez, the CNN anchor fired last year for insinuating that Jews control the media.
Rodriguez invited the pair to share his box at a game, where they appear to have had a pretty good time.
Foxman condemned Sanchez’s “bigotry” last fall, but changed his mind about the former newsman in March, when he granted Sanchez a meeting and later received a lengthy thank-you note and summary of lessons learned. (Sample: “My words were just plain wrong — wrong because they do not reflect what I believe, wrong because they do not reflect what is in my heart, and wrong because they conjure up some of the worst and most dangerous stereotypes of Jews …”)
Foxman subsequently declared the matter “put to rest,” and the pair plan to work together to strengthen Jewish-Latino relations.
