Drew Barrymore, Justin Long Defile Kosher Home!
Despite tepid advance reviews for the upcoming Drew Barrymore-Justin Long romantic comedy, “Going the Distance” — Variety diagnosed the movie as having “bipolar disorder” — the trailer is playing up the genre film’s atypical gross-out aspect.
Directed by Nanette Burstein, the film follows two lovers, Erin and Garrett, as they try to work through a long-distance relationship from opposite coasts. In one scene, Garrett surprises Erin at her sister’s house in San Francisco. Feeling no ill effects from his cross-country flight, Garrett jumps his girlfriend; they strip, and proceed to have sex on the dining room table, only to be interrupted by Erin’s sister and her dumbstruck husband, who was enjoying a late-night snack.
Funny, yes, but maybe not for the Orthodox Jewish couple that donated its Queens home for the film shoot. In an appearance on Lopez Tonight earlier this week, Long explained how in addition to defiling the table, the crew inadvertently un-koshered the couple’s barbeque and grilling utensils by making traif hamburgers for a dinner scene.
And the table? While “shooting the sex-on-their-dining-room-table scene,” somebody, Long said, “raised the point: ‘Well, if they had a problem with that meat….”
The studio replaced the cooking equipment. No word on the table.
