NeverTrump? That’s So October as Billionaire Paul Singer Backs the Donald
Paul Singer, the billionaire Jewish donor who led Republican opposition to Donald Trump, has reportedly flip-flopped and is now shamelessly cozying up to the soon-to-be commander in chief.
Singer once famously predicted that Trump would spark a “widespread global depression” if elected has made a substantial donation to the incoming president’s inaugural committee. He also attended a fundraising breakfast that Trump held Wednesday on Wall Street in New York, CNBC reported.
The Elliott Management founder was one of the most outspoken critics of Trump during the primary election campaign and contributed millions to his rivals and outside groups seeking to block Trump.
He told a conference last summer that Trump’s economic policies were “close to a guarantee of a global depression, widespread global depression.”
Sources told the financial network that Singer and Trump have spoken since the election and that Singer is now encouraged by the cabinet Trump is putting together, which includes a number of Wall Street heavyweights.
Singer is far from alone in reversing course on Trump now that he is White House-bound.
Ex-rivals Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio both endorsed Trump during the general election campaign. And Mitt Romney, who famously derided Trump as a “fraud” is now angling to be the mogul’s secretary of state.
