Israeli Jews Favor Hillary Clinton by Wide 43%-to-34% Margin
Israeli Jews prefer Democrat Hillary Clinton over Republican Donald Trump by a 43%-to-34% margin, a new poll reveals.
The Israel Democratcy Institute phone poll showed that Israelis are more inclined to support Clinton than Americans, who are more evenly divided between the two candidates, the Times of Israel reporterd.
Among Israeli Arabs, the margin was much wider, with 58% supporting Clinton and just 11% backing Trump.
Pollsters questioned 400 Jews and 100 Arabs for the survey.
The poll appears to debunk the idea touted by some observers that Israelis prefer Trump because of his hardline stands. Some also believe Clinton would suffer from her association with President Obama, who has had a frosty relationship with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Trump has pushed hard for votes in Israel, even opening up campaign offices in the occupied West Bank to lure settlers, some of whom hold American citizenship and may share some of his right-wing votes.
Regardless of whom they support, an overwhelming 61% majority of Israelis believe Clinton will be the next president. Just 23% say Trump will win the race to the White House.
