Al Jazeera Pulls Plug on American News Operation
Cable news channel Al Jazeera said it will shut down its U.S. operations by the end of April, citing economic challenges in the U.S. media market.
Al Jazeera America will cease operations by April 30, Qatar-based Al Jazeera Media Network said on Wednesday.
The company will instead expand its existing international digital services in the United States, as consumers ditch traditional media and move to mobile devices for news.
The network will provide more details about the expansion of its digital services in the United States over the coming months, the cable network said.
The company’s U.S. network was launched in 2013.
