Ex-Teacher at Toronto Jewish Day Schools Charged With Child Porn
A former Jewish day school teacher, administrator and private tutor in Toronto has been charged with possessing child pornography.
Stephen Joseph Schacter, 55, was allegedly seen viewing child porn on a public computer at a social services center and was arrested Wednesday, The Star reported.
According to police, Schacter worked as an elementary teacher for the Eitz Chaim group of Orthodox day schools in Toronto from 1986 to 2004, an office administrator at Toronto’s United Synagogue Day School from 2005 to 2009 and a private tutor from 2008 to 2011. United Synagogue, now called Robbins Hebrew Academy, is affiliated with the Conservative movement.
Police said they are concerned Schacter had inappropriate contact with students at those institutions.
According to Global News, he has been charged with one count of possession of child pornography. He appeared in court on Wednesday and will have his next court hearing in January.
