London Synagogue Worshippers Pluck Baby From Burning Car

A baby was saved from a burning car outside a London synagogue when two men rushed out of a Passover service to rescue him moments before the vehicle turned into a fireball.

The family of four was trapped inside their Peugeot when it caught fire on a street in north London’s Tottenham section Sunday, according to The London Evening Standard, which also published photographs of the rescue. The calls for help were heard in the nearby synagogue.

“The people in the car realized there was going to be a problem and tried to get out, then fire started coming out,” Michael Block, who was at the synagogue, told the Standard.

One of the people in the car was an elderly man who became disoriented and a baby was strapped into a car seat.

Two men, identified as local Moses Kupermann and a visiting Israeli national, rushed out and rescued the family, who were taken into the synagogue unharmed.

“(They) judged that the car was not going to blow up straight away and went to help,” Block told the Standard. “He was very brave.”
