Al Qaeda-Linked Group Claims Responsibility for Border Attack on IDF Jeep

A terrorist group linked to Al-Qaeda claimed responsibility for an attack on an Israel Defense Forces jeep on Israel’s border with Lebanon.

No soldiers were injured in Friday’s attack, in which the terrorist group, called The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, fired shots at the IDF patrol, according to the Times of Israel. The IDF originally believed the Lebanese terrorist group Hezbollah to be responsible for the attack, and had retaliated by firing on Hezbollah positions. The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant is fighting Syrian President Bashar Assad in Syria’s civil war.

The attack follows intensified fighting between Israel and Islamic Jihad, a terrorist group based in Gaza. The flare-up ended on Thursday with an Egyptian-brokered truce.
