San Diego JCC Cancels Planned Show by Singer Eyal Golan Amid Sex Probe
A Jewish community center in San Diego cancelled a concert by Eyal Golan amid suspicions that the Israeli singer had sex with minors, an Israeli radio station reported.
Golan was slated to perform Jan. 19 at a concert which was advertised as late as Jan. 10 on the website of the Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center in San Diego. The show has since been removed from the website.
According to the report Friday by Army Radio, the center decided to drop the show because of protests by members of the Jewish community who found it inappropriate because of the sex investigation.
Police briefly arrested Golan and his father in November because several underage girls said they had sex with them. Golan has denied the allegations. Police last month questioned some of the witnesses and alleged victims under warning on suspicion they had lied.
One of the organizers of the concert, Yigal Amsalem, told Army Radio he and his associates were considering suing the community center.
“Bringing Eyal Golan over to San Diego is no small matter,” he said in an interview Thursday. “How could they have cancelled a concert one week in advance and for no good reason? They will pay for this in legal costs in a lawsuit by Eyal Golan and by us.”
The Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center in San Diego was not immediately available for comment.
