American Jewish University, a nondenominational educational institution, was founded when the University of Judaism and the Brandeis-Bardin Institute in Los Angeles merged in 2007. It has two campuses and is comprised of small, liberal arts-focused undergraduate and graduate programs. It also includes a center for continuing education, which offers courses in fine arts, languages, social services and other subjects.

Rabbi Robert Wexler has been the president of the American Jewish University since 1992, and negotiated the merger between the University of Judaism and the Brandeis-Bardin Institute in Los Angeles in 2007. He launched the University’s Ziegler School for Rabbinic studies, and started a training program for administrators of organizations in the African-American, Latino and Asian communities. Wexler holds a master’s from the Jewish Theological Seminary, where he was also ordained. While in rabbinical school, Wexler also earned his M.B.A. degree from Baruch College in New York City and a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from UCLA in the Department of Near Eastern Languages.
