Founded in 1948, Brandeis University is a private research university with a liberal arts focus, located in Waltham, Mass. It is the only nonsectarian Jewish-sponsored college or university in the country; according to Hillel, 50% of the 3,588 undergraduate students are Jewish. Brandeis has four graduate schools, including the Brandeis International Business School.

Ronald D. Liebowitz became Brandeis University’s ninth president on July 1, 2016. The former president of Middlebury College, Liebowitz is a recognized administrative leader in higher education whose academic scholarship has centered on political geography, Russia, and higher education. The Brandeis salary posted is for his immediate predecessor, Lisa Lynch, who served as interim president before Liebowitz’s arrival last year. A New York City native, Liebowitz served as Middlebury’s president from 2004-15. In all, he spent 32 years as a professor of geography and Russian studies at Middlebury, including seven as provost, from 1997-2004.
