A Bloomingburg Primer

The Forward’s article this week on the dispute over a new Satmar development in Bloomingburg is built on years of reporting by many outlets. For those interested in digging deeper, we suggest checking out the following stories and resources.

The Times Herald-Record

Without a doubt, the newspaper that has paid the closest attention to the battle for Bloomingburg is the Times Herald-Record, based in Middletown, New York. The Herald-Record’s reporters have done incredible work on the story. They have compiled much of that reporting into an overwhelmingly comprehensive timeline, which you can flip through here.

One good place to start is this Herald-Record story on secret documents uncovered this year.

The Forward

This paper ran a lengthy story on the roots of the development fight back in 2014. We also covered an FBI raid that took place there that year.

Vice

Hella Winston wrote a story for Vice in November about voter fraud allegations in Bloomingburg.

New York Jewish Week

In 2015, the New York Jewish Week published its own stories about the tensions in Bloomingburg.
