Al Gore: Ivanka Trump Is ‘Very Concerned’ About Climate Change

Former Vice President Al Gore had kind words on Monday night for Ivanka Trump, following his meeting earlier with her and President-elect Donald Trump to discuss climate change.

“It’s no secret that Ivanka Trump is very committed to having a climate policy that makes sense for our country and for our world and that was certainly evident in the conversation that I had with her,” the global warming activist and “Inconvenient Truth” star told MSNBC. “I appreciate the fact that she is very concerned about this.” Gore would not go into specifics but called his conversation with Ivanka Trump and Donald Trump as “a very intelligent exchange.”

The president-elect has called climate change a “hoax” perpetrated by the Chinese in order to sap American competitiveness. During the campaign, Trump vowed to withdraw the United States from the Paris climate accord, which commits the world’s countries to meeting certain targets in the reduction of greenhouse gases that fuel global warming. But since the election, Trump has sounded a more conciliatory tone on the issue, telling The New York Times that he would look at the issue anew.

Ivanka Trump has shown an interest in policy as the country prepares for the transition of power in January. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi told the press that when she and the president-elect discussed his agenda on the phone, he handed the line over to his daughter when the issue of parental leave surfaced. In July, she talked about that issue in her speech to the Republican National Committee and in September, she announced the Trump campaign’s maternal leave policy, a mix of tax credits and time off for married mothers. Reports earlier this week in the media also said that she intended to work on the issue of global warming, in contrast to many incoming White House personnel who dismiss the issue.
