Bill Clinton: I Will Use My Superdelegate Vote to Support Bernie Sanders If He Wins Nomination

Bill Clinton is saying no to .

In an interview with the New York Daily News during a campaign stop, President Clinton said he would use his superdelegate vote in New York to support Bernie Sanders if he wins the Democratic nomination over wife Hillary Clinton.

“It happened last time,” Clinton said, referring to his wife’s unsuccessful presidential bid in 2008, adding “last time I did what my candidate asked, I voted for Barack Obama.”

Clinton’s statements come two days after six Democratic superdelegates in New York said they would stay loyal to Hillary Clinton and not vote for Sanders if she loses the primary. In addition to Clinton, other New York superdelegates include Senators Kirsten Gillibrand and Chuck Schumer and many of the state’s House members.

According to Bloomberg Politics, Hillary Clinton leads Sanders with 1,712 delegates, including 469 superdelegates to Sanders’s 1,011, 31 of which are superdelegates. The candidates need 2,383 total delegates before the Democratic convention in Philadelphia in July to win the nomination.
