Yid Lit: Evan Fallenberg

Won in Translation: Evan Fallenberg has translated major novels for Ron Leshem and Meir Shalev. Image by Aliz Noy

A male ballet dancer is old enough to be a young artist’s grandfather, and yet they enter into a relationship to repair the hurts in each other’s lives. This is the premise of Israeli writer, Evan Fallenberg’s, second novel, “When We Danced on Water,” the follow up to his award-winning debut, “Light Fell.” His translation of Meir Shalev’s “A Pigeon and a Boy” won the National Jewish Book Award. In this Yid Lit Podcast, Fallenberg discusses taking dance lessons for his new novel, writing about religious and sexual identity, and what it was like to come out to his kids.
