Bagels and Ballots – Tuesday

These Days, Is Anything Safe?: With three weeks left to this campaign season, it’s looking like seats considered safe by Democrats are getting risky: “As Republicans made new investments in at least 10 races across the country, including two Democratic seats here in eastern Ohio, Democratic leaders took steps to pull out of some races entirely or significantly cut their financial commitment in several districts that the party won in the last two election cycles,” the Times reports. (The New York Times)

Obama—Helping or Hurting? POTUS has recorded a radio ad for Kendrick Meek, the Democratic Representative running for Florida’s senate seat who isn’t quite cleaning up in the polls: “Kendrick’s been a powerful voice for Floridians: standing up to special interests, to hold Wall Street accountable, fighting the insurance industry to make sure health care isn’t denied to our children because of a preexisting condition, working to eliminate subsidies to banks so young people can afford a college education, and Kendrick strongly opposes extending tax breaks for the wealthy and has worked tirelessly to expand the middle class.” Republican Marco Rubio’s campaign has responded by calling Meek an Obama rubber stamp. Palin in 2012? Perhaps Not: While Sarah Palin’s presidential candidacy has been taken for granted, she says she’ll follow the desires of voters. “It isn’t my call – it is the people of America whether they would be ready for someone a bit unconventional, out of the box,” Palin told the conservative news magazine Newsmax. “You know — being used to taking on the establishment. Taking on both sides of the aisle. Or if they want someone a little more conventional maybe more electable — and that’s who they would support.” (Politico)

“Mucho Gracias (sic):” So said California’s Republican senatorial candidate Carly Fiorina after downing tequila shots with Republican gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman at the Hispanic 100 lifetime Achievement Award Gala. Mitzvote says Olé! (Gawker)
