Your Impact
Your support makes the Forward the leading Jewish voice in American journalism, reporting the news with courage, accountability, integrity and Yiddishkeit. Without you, the Forward‘s stories don’t just go unread — they go untold. Here are just a few examples of your impact:
Investigative Journalism
The Forward provides fair and full reporting through a Jewish lens in the highest tradition of public-service journalism. Our investigative reporting reveals the true extent of the antisemitism that surrounds us and holds public officials, institutions and digital platforms accountable for how they handle these threats. The Forward also serves as a rare source of independent, objective coverage of Jewish institutions and tensions within the Jewish community, including essential reporting on allegations of sexual harassment and abuse in Jewish institutions.
Breaking News
The Forward is one of the few Jewish news organizations that can send journalists to follow major events as they unfold across the country and around the world, bringing a distinctive Jewish lens to the news and finding important narratives that other media overlook. Within hours of Hamas’ attack on October 7, our reporter was on a plane to Israel and spent the next three weeks criss-crossing the country, breaking a number of stories well before mainstream outlets were able to do so. In the following weeks, as tensions flared on college campuses, the Forward deployed reporters to various universities to document the concerns of Jewish staff and students.
Politics
American Jews of all backgrounds look to the Forward for incisive reporting on national, state and local politics. The Forward breaks shocking political news stories, hosts spirited and balanced debates, and uses our trusted platform to enhance public discourse. Without the Forward, Rep. George Santos would never have been exposed for lying about his Jewish heritage; the House Speaker of Canada would never have resigned after the Parliament bestowed one of its highest honors to a former Nazi; nor would Sebastain Gorka been expelled from the Trump administration for his ties to a far-right, Nazi-affiliated group. The Forward has uncovered lies, injustices, bigotry and inaccuracies that change the course of history.
Opinion
The Forward’s opinion section is a vibrant platform for robust, civil debate from all corners of our Jewish communities, including the complex politics surrounding Israel and Jewish communal debates over antisemitism. We seek to represent the broadest possible spectrum of attributes and experiences, and track the demographics of our opinion contributors to measure our progress on diversity and inclusion.
Cultural Journalism
The Forward’s award-winning coverage of Jewish art, film, literature and performance gives a glimpse into the richness of Jewish culture and deepens our readers’ understanding of what it means to be Jewish. Our cultural coverage also offers original, thought-provoking explorations of how antisemitism plays out in social media, video games and other digital spaces.
Israel Coverage
The complicated, nuanced relationship that the American Jewry has with Israel has always been thoughtfully reflected in the pages of the Forward. The Forward has brought in-depth insight and analysis on the Israeli political landscape of judicial reform, protest and war.
Archive
The Forward’s archive tells the story of American Jewry with more than 40,000 historical photographs, documents and objects that provide a vital link to the experiences of Jews around the world that informs our reporting and public programming. Recently, the Forward dove deep into our Yiddish archive, uncovering a wealth of stories from more than 60 years of the Forverts’ “Seeking Relatives” columns that helped connect thousands of desperate, displaced Jews with their families around the world before and after World War II. We continue to catalog and conserve our archival holdings, making them more accessible for research and creative uses.
Yiddish
The Yiddish Forverts preserves our publication’s rich Yiddish heritage and inspires the next generation by connecting our global community of Yiddish language and culture enthusiasts. Many people come to the Forverts for its fun and challenging Yiddish word games, including our digital Yiddish-language crossword puzzle – the first of its kind in the world – and “Vertl,” a Yiddish version of The New York Times’ daily Wordle game which is visited more than 80,000 times annually. The Forverts’ virtual events on Yiddish language, food, culture and humor have brought together large audiences of Yiddishists from all over the world.
