Larry David Stumps for Obama

Hillary Clinton may have won a surprise victory in the New Hampshire primary, but Barack Obama still managed to beat her handily in the town of Hanover, home to Dartmouth College, where he had an assist from America’s favorite television misanthrope, Larry David.

It seems the “Seinfeld” co-creator and star of HBO’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm” thinks the Illinois senator would make a pretty, pretty, pretty good president. This week, David was out campaigning in the Dartmouth dorms on Obama’s behalf, accompanied by media personality Arianna Huffington and his agent, Ari Emanuel (brother of Rep. Rahm Emanuel of Illinois).

“Haven’t we had enough with Bushes and Clintons and Bushes?” David asked students at the Ivy League’s northernmost outpost. “The country needs a shower — a good, long, hot shower. That’s what Obama is, a hot shower. So fresh you can smell him, delicious.”

Though politics brought David to Dartmouth, the campus newspaper reported that he also fielded questions related to his day job. Asked which “Seinfeld” character would make the best president, he had a ready reply.

“Newman,” David answered, referring to the show’s conniving postman. “Because every time he would give a press conference and walk up to the podium, everyone would say, ‘Hello, Newman.’”
