WATCH: Learn some fun Yiddish words and proverbs about Purim
Ever wonder what Ashkenazi Jews baked for Purim, aside from homentashen? Learn about it in this special Purim edition of “Yiddish Word of the Day” by Forverts editor Rukhl Schaechter.
You’ll also hear how to pronounce the names of the characters in the megillah, the story of Purim, in Yiddish, as well as a couple of humorous proverbs associated with the holiday.
“Yiddish Word of the Day” was launched by the Forward in April 2020 as a way to bring a smile to people who had become homebound due to the coronavirus, while teaching them some mame-loshn at the same time. Since then, the video has garnered more than 650,000 views on Facebook and YouTube.
