Christmas-Themed Hummus? Sabra’s Got Yule Covered.
For the low, low price of $6.49, centuries of Christian hegemony can collide with the delightful discussion of ‘is hummus really Jewish?’ in the form of Christmas-packaged classic Sabra hummus.
Yes, that’s right. Sabra Dipping Company, a hummus manufacturer whose products are sold in Walmart and Target, is now offering its own holiday design. Unlike the 2016 Sabra holiday hummus debacle, in which all Sabra hummus was recalled due to concern over a listeria outbreak, people of all religions and nationalities will be able to feast on holiday hummus and not die.
For everyday purchasers of Sabra hummus, which The Influenster called ‘great to eat with chips,’ the unobtrusive mistletoe suddenly decorating those holiday-sharing-size plastic containers might incite a romantic moment. So the hummus argument, serving as a fun proxy for questions about whether the state of Israel deserves to exist, can now be had over bowls of chickpea dip and chips.
Some quick research has revealed that there is no other brand manufacturing any sort of holiday hummus, though the Internet and Pinterest offer oodles of homemade holiday hummus recipes.
Representatives from Sabra did not respond to a request for comment.
