Three Whiskies For Father’s Day

It’s not too late to buy a Father’s Day gift. The liquor stores are open all day.
Forget ties — he doesn’t ever wear them, forget watches — the time goes by too fast, just buy whisky so he can drink away all the tsoris you are causing him.
Here’s what to buy this year (or, last year’s batch are still good recommendations).
Single Cask Nation – English Whisky

English, not Scottish, this 9 year old whisky is aged in Sauternes barriques (tall, special 59 gallon barrels). It’s a Single Cask Nation bottling of the English Whisky Company it’s a delicious spicy whisky with a raisin finish, almost orangey in its fruitiness.
Nikka Taketsuru

Named for Masataka Taketsuru, the father of Japanese whisky, who set up two distilleries in the north and south — Yoichi and Miyagikyo. This expression blends the two into a lovely introduction into whisky. It has some sweetness without being sweet, a smokiness without any real peat, some flavor without being too spicy.
Talisker 18

This is our current Forward office favorite for celebrating the completion of another fine print product. It has a slight spicy smokiness that you’d associate with Talisker, but the age really tells in giving this a subtle, mild profile that has shades of ginger and calvados. A lovely bottle if you actually like your father.
