A Savory Twist On Tradition
Purim is on Sunday, and on Purim, we eat hamantaschen. Usually, the triangular pastries are made with sweet fillings. But on a day where candy is abundantly consumed, the thought of more sweet eats can be just too much to bear.
What if you could buy a hamantaschen that is savory; that satisfies your need for salt and tang? This year, you can. Breads Bakery is not only producing its traditional sweet-filled hamantaschen — poppy, chocolate, apple and prune. It will also be debuting two savory flavors, one filled with roasted beets, the other with potato mixed with caramelized onions. For the entire month of March, the savory hamantaschen will be available in all three Breads locations in New York City. For $4, you can try one of each.
