Exploring Israel Through Food, Film & Photography

Cooking is a creative outlet for me— as much about developing beautiful flavors, aromas, colors and textures as about getting dinner on the table. While I know it’s not like that for everyone, it seems to me that there’s a strong connection between art and food in general. Certainly many of my friends who are in the arts are also passionate and talented home cooks.

Maybe that’s why I’m so intrigued by an upcoming event at the Brooklyn Museum.

In celebration of a new photo exhibit called This Place, which explores Israel and the West Bank through the eyes of 12 internationally acclaimed photographers, the museum will show Roger Sherman’s documentary In Search of Israeli Cuisine following an Israel-inspired dinner prepared by James Beard Award winner Michael Solomonov and the museum’s chef Saul Bolton.

The event takes place on the evening of Thursday, May 12. Tickets, which include the exhibit, the meal and the screening, are $44. (For $68, you will also receive a copy of “Zahav: A World of Israeli Cooking,” by Michael Solomonov.)

Maybe I’ll see you there.
