Carnegie Deli Giving People Gas Again

Tenants of the building owned by the Carnegie Deli should have their cooking gas restored this week — a hopeful sign that the iconic eatery, which has been closed since its gas line was after an illegal hookup was discovered in April, will soon reopen its doors.
People living in the deli’s building in midtown Manhattan, who had resorted to boiling pots of water in order to wash, finally had their hot water and heat restored just before New Year’s, DNAInfo reported. Cooking gas should return January 8.
A spokesperson for the deli told DNAInfo that the deli itself is “shooting for an opening sometime early this year.”

Editor’s update: A rep for Carnegie Deli contacted the Forward to update the timeline in this story. The building’s hot water was actually restored on 12/8/15 and heat restored 12/22/15, the rep said. DNAInfo’s story has been amended as well.
