Cool Jewish Cuisine at Street Fair This Sunday

We loved the Workmen’s Circle Taste of Jewish Culture](https://forward-hcl50.orc.scoolaid.net/food/202655/nouveau-jewish-food-hits-streets-of-manhattan/ “” “”) street fair last summer, and [this year’s edition looks even richer.

Nouveau-Jewish food vendors will descend on New York’s Avenue of the Americas at 46th Street on June 21 — think cool kids like , Black Seed Bagels, Oddfellows Ice Cream, Shelsky’s of Brooklyn, Dassara Brooklyn Ramen and Gefilteria, along with new flavors from La Newyorkina, owned by Mexican Jew Fany Gerson, and Marani, a Glatt kosher resto in Rego Park, Queens.

Forward contributing editor and food columnist Leah Koenig will be at the fair signing copies of her new book, “Modern Jewish Cooking: Recipes & Customs for Today’s Kitchen.”

And at 2pm, an egg cream competition will pit four of the foodie heavyweights in a battle for the best new twist on a New York classic, the egg cream.

Brooklyn Seltzer Boys, Court Street Grocers, Baz Bagel & Restaurant, and Odd Fellows will participate in the throwdown. Grubstreet offered a sneak preview, including an Italian-accented version from Baz Bagel, a root-beer infused rendition from Oddfellows and bananas and black tea (!) in the entry from Court Street Grocers.

Summing up the event, producer Noah Arernstein told the Forward, “It’s the global bounty of Jewish cuisine.”
