The Kosher Cheese Guy and All the Dish

Kosher artisan cheesemaker Brent Delman.

Sounds Cheesy

This sounds so cheesy, in the best possible way. Kosher artisan cheese maven , aka The Cheese Guy, will host a June 10 pairing event at Maille, the new “specialty Dijon-mustard boutique” on Manhattan’s Upper West Side.

Look for Delman’s acclaimed kosher artisanal cheeses — Vermont Bloom Brie, chipotle cheddar, Italian-made Parmesan — matched with tasty, kosher wines and Maille mustards.

When it opened in January, Maille made headlines with NYC’s first mustard sommelier.

Yes, that’s a thing.

Secret Cargo from Israel

What’s in those packages? Ron and Leetal Arazi aren’t telling. But after two weeks in Israel, the owners of Brooklyn’s NY Shuk say they’re loading a suitcase with “snacks, food mementos and keepsakes that can only be found in Israel” for NYshuk Secret Packages. Just 15 of the goodie boxes will be available to fans who order online.

“The only hint I can offer is that we are planning a special trip to the markets in Jerusalem, Akko and Levinsky in Tel Aviv to get all the goodies,” Leetal Arazi told Dish by email from Israel. We’re not sure what to read into this, but the Arazis sent photos of an Iraqi quince sweet called luzina and an array of pickles, both from Tel Aviv’s Shuk Hatikva. NY Shuk specializes in Sephardic treats from harissa to couscous to tanzeya.

Jews to Eat on Street

We loved the Workmen’s Circle Taste of Jewish Culture street fair last summer, and this year’s edition looks even richer.

Twenty nouveau-Jewish food vendors will descend on NYC’s Avenue of the America’s on June 21 — think cool kids like Baz Bagel, Black Seed Bagels, Oddfellows Ice Cream, Shelsky’s of Brooklyn, Dassara Brooklyn Ramen and Gefilteria, along with new flavors from La Newyorkina, owned by Mexican Jew Fany Gerson, and Marani, a Glatt kosher resto in Rego Park, Queens.

“It’s the global bounty of Jewish cuisine,” producer Noah Arenstein told Dish.
