The ‘Facebook Of Knitting’ Bans Pro-Trump Support
A popular online knitting community has banned all support for President Trump and his administration from its social network, The Washington Post reported.
Ravelry, which boasts 8 million members, announced the decision Sunday.
“We cannot provide a space that is inclusive of all and also allow support for open white supremacy,” the site said. “Support of the Trump administration is undeniably support for white supremacy.”
The announcement didn’t specify which of Trump’s policies exemplify white supremacy. The ban is initiated throughout the site, including “forum posts, projects, patterns, profiles.” Those who get banned will still have access to the patterns they bought.
Ravelry said the ban is not about promoting Democrats or tearing down Republicans.
“We are definitely not banning conservative politics,” it said. “Hate groups and intolerance are different from other types of political positions.”
