Man Charged For Gunning Down California Dad Camping With Daughters

A man was charged with the murder of Tristan Beaudette, a California man who was shot over the summer while camping with his two young daughters, the New York Daily News reported.

Anthony Rauda was charged on Monday with one count of murder, 10 counts of attempted murder and five counts of second-degree burglary, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. He faces life in prison if convicted.

He was dressed in black and holding a rifle when arrested near Malibu Creek State Park in October, where Beaudette was fatally shot in the head while in his tent. His 2- and 4-year-old daughters were beside him but not hurt.

Rauda is accused of firing at unsuspecting campers and motorists since November 2016, CNN reported. At the time of his arrest, authorities were looking for someone who’d been breaking into local buildings and stealing food since around October of that year.

Rabbi Arnie Rachlis of the University Synagogue in Irvine told CNN in June that Beaudette went camping while his wife was studying for an exam, sharing that he was “so comfortable in nature and as a parent … it was natural that he would take them on the trip.”

“We would see the family at many of the University Synagogue events,” Rachlis said, “and Tristan was such a warm human being with this tremendous smile. You would see his little girls on stage, performing or singing. And he was riveted to them, adored them, looking at them with a big smile.”
