Nadler Says No Plans To Impeach Kavanaugh

Rep. Jerry Nadler said Sunday that the House Judiciary Committee doesn’t plan to investigate or impeach Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, The Hill reported.

Nadler, the top Democrat on the committee and the person likely to chair it when the new Congress arrives in January, addressed claims brought up in a story by The Federalist, in which a reporter claims to have overheard him discussing Democrats’ plan for handling Kavanaugh.

Nadler said on CNN that the reporter was “not telling the truth.”

“I’m not going to comment on a private conversation with a friend,” Nadler said.

However, the New York congressman said the committee still intends to looking into Kavanaugh’s sexual misconduct allegations to determine if the earlier FBI investigation was sound.

Nadler also said Democrats are not looking into impeaching President Trump. While he sees “potential” cases for impeachment, they are waiting to learn the results of special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russia’s interference in the 2016 presidential election.

“We’ll then have to make judgments,” he said. “I certainly hope that we will not find a necessity for an impeachment, but you can’t rule that out.”
