House Republicans Seek Subpoena For Rosenstein Memos

House Republicans have looked into issuing a subpoena to the Justice Department for memos penned by former FBI deputy director Andrew McCabe to learn if Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein plotted to secretly record President Trump, Politico reported.

The attempt is part of the fallout from a recent New York Times article that claimed Rosenstein discussed invoking the 25th Amendment to remove Trump from office after the president fired FBI Director James Comey. The story was written based on anonymous sources familiar with the events as well as notes McCabe, then the acting FBI director, wrote at the time.

After House Judiciary Committee chairman Bob Goodlatte shared his intent to issue the subpoena, conservatives in the House demanded Rosenstein either testify this week or resign.

House Freedom Caucus chairman Mark Meadows told Politico that the memos have been asked about for months, and he’s unsure if anything productive will come of their release.

Rosenstein denied the Times report. He’s scheduled to meet with Trump on Thursday.
