Sen. Dianne Feinstein Loses Democratic Party Endorsement
Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California lost her state party’s endorsement, the Los Angeles Times reported Sunday.
The executive board of the California Democratic Party voted 65%-7% to endorse state lawmaker Kevin de León over the incumbent Feinstein. In the lead-up to the vote, Feinstein urged the state party not to endorse either candidate; 28% of voters supported “no endorsement.”
De León will now have greater access to campaign funding, organizing assistance, and volunteers from the state party.
Feinstein, running for her fifth full term in the Senate, has come under criticism from for her centrism and proclivity towards bipartisanship, with a FiveThirtyEight analysis deeming her as the Democrat who votes for Trump’s position most often.
Feinstein will face de León in November as a result of the state’s all-party primary in June, when Feinstein received 44% of the vote compared to de León’s 12%.
