Kathy Manning Cruises To Landslide Win In North Carolina Primary

Kathy Manning, a trailblazing former Jewish federation chief, was poised for a landslide victory in the Democratic primary for a congressional seat in North Carolina.

Manning was ahead of fellow Democrat Adam Coker by a more than 2-1 margin with most of the votes counted in the 12th district race.

Manning looks set to face first-term incumbent Ted Budd in the November general election in a bellwether race that could predict whether an anti-Trump “blue wave” could sweep Democrats back into power on Capitol Hill.

Manning, who was the first woman to chair the Jewish Federations of North America, is running in a district that stretches south from Democratic Greensboro through solidly Republican rural counties.

Budd won by a 16-percentage point margin in 2016 in the district, which was gerrymandered to help Republicans win.

But former president Barack Obama won there in his 2008 landslide, and Trump carried the district by a relatively narrow 53%-to-44% vote.
