Report: Greitens Lied To Ethics Committee About Using Charity’s Donor List For Campaign

Eric Greitens, the Missouri governor accused of blackmailing a former sexual partner with nude images, is now accused of lying to a state ethics committee about whether he used a private charity’s donor list for his own campaign fundraising, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported.
Missouri launched a special investigation into Greitens’ campaign funding tactics in February. The committee was formed days after a state prosecutor charged Greitens with felony invasion of privacy for taking a picture of a sexual partner in a compromising position without her consent.
Now, the committee has released a 23-page report, based on records and interviews with six former Greitens employees, accusing Greitens of violating campaign finance law. The report alleges that Greitens began a shadow campaign for the governor’s mansion in 2014, when used the donor list of a private charity he founded as a call list for his race. Greitens had previously written he had not taken the donor list in a signed statement to the committee.
The charity, The Mission Continues, is aimed at helping military veterans adjust to civilian life. The committee report says that Greitens agreed in 2012 not to use the charity’s list of donors.
The report does not recommend whether Greitens should be impeached, though many state lawmakers have called for impeachment.
Greitens’ trial for felony invasion of privacy begins May 14.
