Adelson Hatches Plan To Keep House In Republican Hands
Billionaire casino mogul Sheldon Adelson met with top Republicans on the sidelines of an Israeli American Council event to talk about preserving a Republican majority in the House, Jewish Insider reported.
Adelson has said that he sees the Israeli American Council, to which he is the top donor, as a hardline alternative to AIPAC. Before a reception for members of Congress the group hosted this week to mark the anniversary of the founding of the state of Israel, Adelson met with Congressman Steven Stivers, chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee, and Lee Zeldin, the only Jewish Republican in Congress.
“The discussion centered around Republican efforts to keep the House in 2018,” Jewish Insider reported.
Adam Milstein, the chairman of the IAC’s board, was also at the meeting, according to Jewish Insider. The meeting was hosted by Congressman Joe Wilson.
Democrats would need to win two dozen seats currently held by Republicans in order to take control of the chamber. In recent years, Adelson has been among the largest Republican donors in the country.
