Laura Moser Takes Hit From Party Establishment In Democratic Primary For Texas Congress Seat

The Democratic Party is gunning for Laura Moser, a Democratic candidate in a Houston-area Congressional primary.

Yesterday, in an unusually aggressive attack, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee posted opposition research against Moser, calling her “a Washington insider who begrudgingly moved to Houston to run for Congress.”

Moser is a prominent Jewish leader of the anti-Trump movement and the founder of Daily Action, a civic engagement text service. She is also a writer and has contributed culture articles to the Forward. Some Democrats worry that she is too liberal to win a general election in the Houston-area congressional district.

While the official campaign arm of the House Democrats is attacking Moser, other Democratic groups have stood by her, including the progressive group Democracy for America, founded by former Vermont governor Howard Dean.

Moser is competing in a district seen as a key potential pickup for the Democrats, seeking to unseat incumbent Republican John Culberson. She is facing a crowded field of fellow Democratic hopefuls in the March 6 primary in the district that voted for Hillary Clinton over Donald Trump in 2016.
