Democrats Again Call For Jared And Ivanka To Be Stripped Of Security Clearances
Congressional Democrats are again calling for the security clearances of presidential advisors/family members Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner to be revoked after the couple were involved in additional controversies.
A letter sent by Reps. Ted Lieu of California and Don Beyer of Virginia to White House Counsel Don McGahn noted three news reports this week that they said indicated unethical and possibly criminal action by the couple.
First, it was reported that Kushner and Trump had used multiple private emails accounts to conduct White House business. It was also reported that Kushner and Trump had been fined for missing deadlines to file financial disclosure forms with the Office of Government Ethics—the second time Kushner has missed such a deadline. And The New Yorker reported this week that Trump was nearly indicted for real estate fraud in 2012.
“These new revelations, along with the ongoing White House probe of Ms. Trump’s private email use, have compromised Ms. Trump’s integrity and credibility,” the letter stated.
House Democrats had asked in June for Kushner’s security clearance to be revoked after he admitted having failed to disclose foreign contacts on his clearance form, including parleys with Russian officials.
